About The Album "Neither Here Nor There"
Recording this album was a great joy, as well as and a great experience for me. As a Brazilian pianist, these songs played an essential role in my music development. My vision for this group has always been somewhat of a melting pot, incorporating Brazilian styles ranging from Bossa Nova, Axe, Xote, Samba, as well as a fusion of Afro-Cuban and American styles. In 2006 I met Brazilian bassist Renilson Corrente, a musician who studied and traveled Brazil nationwide with various national artists, playing practically every conceivable Brazilian style. This really inspired us to start working on a project that involved authentic Brazilian styles with a Jazz flavor. So we started working on the repertoire, trying different songs, different styles, and in 2007, along with the collaboration of Brazilian Drummer Ivan Torres and some percussionists, we began to try out the arrangements, leaving enough space for every musician to add his personality. The repertoire is a blend of well known classics from composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Edu Lobo, Chico Buarque De Olanda, Ivan Lins, among others. The result is a very organic sound, with a strong Brazilian rhythm section, and a Jazz influence on its harmonic structure, melody approach, and improvised solos. On January 2008 the group finished its recording at the Pandhandle House studio in Denton TX. The title of the album is Neither Here Nor There due to the mixture of Brazilian and American music and will be released in December 2008.
